A young man was in prayer, asking God to do stuff for him. For about an hour, he reeled out his needs and requests. Then briefly, he heard the Holy Spirit whisper, “I have heard you. But what would you do for me?” That gentle whisper transformed his prayer life forever.
Friend, what would you do for God (Luke 2:49)? We have been taught to demand things from God. We have been taught that God requires nothing from us. We have been taught a Christianity that only makes demands. We are told that God needs nothing from us. But is this true (Acts 9:6, 11)?
God wants us to move from consumption to responsibility in our walk with Him (2 Corinthians 8:1-5). What God will do for you is not really the issue. In Christ, God has done everything for you. But what will you do to appropriate all Christ has done (Acts 20:32-35)?
Believers who live for God won’t lack the blessings of God (Acts 9:36-42). Some people pray for God to do stuff for them. But there are people who enjoy blessings without asking. They are in the budget of Heaven because they serve the assignment of the Kingdom. You can be one of them (Acts 13:36).
God has blessed you so you can be a blessing (Genesis 12:2). God is looking for men and women who care about what He is doing on earth. People who will move from praying for needs to praying for His will to be done. Like Paul, they ask, “Lord, what would you have me do (Acts 9:6)?”
Your life is too small to be the purpose of your life (Galatians 2:20). What God is doing in your life is beyond your needs. His blessings are to enhance your assignment on earth. They are not supposed to be the assignment. When Hannah shifted from wanting a child to giving God a prophet, she got more than she asked for (1 Samuel 1:11).
