A pastor once said something funny but deep: “If you are on your knees praying when you are supposed to be cooking for your husband and family, you will destroy your marriage on your knees.” We all laughed. But the truth in it hit me. Spirituality without responsibility can become destruction.
Friend, your faith should not hurt your marriage. It should help it (1 Peter 3:1-7). When we blame church, prayer, or “God’s work” for problems at home, work, or business, we are missing the point. Christianity was never meant to be a stumbling block to your progress. It is meant to be your stepping stone to excellence (Daniel 1:8, 20).
Using church programs as an excuse for poor performance at work is self-sabotage (Philippians 2:14-15). Many Christians don’t fail because they love God too much. They fail because of poor planning, laziness, and lack of balance. We often expect our devotion to cover up indiscipline (Proverbs 22:29).
True Christianity should make you better in every area of life (Matthew 5:13-16). If your faith doesn’t improve how you treat people and do your work, it’s just religion without wisdom. Look at Daniel, Joseph, and Deborah. They used their relationship with God to excel in government, business, and leadership (Judges 4:4).
Like the pastor said, if you neglect your home and blame church, you are destroying your marriage yourself (Proverbs 31:10-18). Many accusations we lay on God or the church are really a reflection of our own negligence (SoS 1:6). God wants your home to thrive. But ignorance and poor choices can ruin it (Proverbs 4:7).
Your pastor wants the best for you. God wants the best for you. But you must walk in wisdom and responsibility to see it (2 Corinthians 2:11). Don’t let the devil convince you that God or church is the problem. The problem is imbalance. Serve God with all your heart and serve your family with all your wisdom.
