I love weddings. Especially when it’s someone in my circle. But I remember one wedding that felt different the moment I walked in. The moment I saw the groom, my spirit dropped. A quiet question rose in me: “Did she settle for less?” Years later, that quiet question became a loud answer.
Friend, please don’t settle for less. If the devil can’t make you marry wrong, he will try to make you marry less. If he can’t stop you, he will try to slow you down. It is not enough to avoid marrying an unbeliever. Determine not to marry less than what God planned for you, even if he or she is a believer (Genesis 2:18-24).
The fact that someone is nice does not make them right. That someone is in church doesn’t mean they are fitted for your purpose (1 Peter 3:7). Don’t marry a Nabal while waiting for your David (1 Samuel 25:25). Don’t marry out of pity or pressure. Don’t let marriage be what opens your eyes. Let God open your eyes before marriage.
Marrying less isn’t just about today. It’s about 10 years from now. We walk by faith, not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7). Only God sees the future. Only God knows who this person will become. That’s why you need divine insight (2 Corinthians 5:16). You can’t choose right without revelation. Let God show you what you don’t know.
People settle for less when they yoke themselves to someone who can’t carry the weight of their assignment (Genesis 2:15, 18). A God-given partner won’t just love you. They will understand your assignment and know where they fit in it. That’s who Abigail was to David (1 Samuel 25:28-30). That’s the kind of husband or wife you need.
Don’t marry for today. Marry for tomorrow. Your current struggle is not your final address. Don’t choose based on your pressure or pain. Choose based on your vision (Habakkuk 2:3). Don’t just marry who is available. Marry someone who is aligned with your dream, your grace, and your destiny. Who you marry will shape how you live and how you end (Isaiah 51:1-2). Don’t settle for less.
