One of the troubles I had when I gave my life to Christ newly was lack of assurance of salvation. It manifested in the fact that I would normally confess my sins every now and then. At times, I would confess more than 20 times daily. It got me so worried that I became tired of that life. I knew that there’s more to my Christian life. One day, I got a revelation that my sins were forgiven, and it changed everything.

Friend, your sins are forgiven. Forgiveness of sins is one of the pillars of redemption (Colossians 1:14). A lot of people are free yet bound. Calvary has freed them, but ignorance has still bound them (John 8:32). They never realized that their sins were forgiven. They still go about confessing sins they have not committed or have already confessed. Does this look like you?

Do you still go about carrying the guilt of your past sins (John 8:10-11)? You need to realise today that your sins are forgiven. Notice that when John wrote to the believers in 1 John 2, he specifically says to children that their sins were forgiven (1 John 2:12)? It is a matter of understanding and maturity. If you are still a child in understanding, you would not enjoy the blessings of redemption (1 Corinthians 14:20).

Our redemption came with forgiveness of sins (Ephesians 1:7). In fact, this is the essence of redemption. It also means that you are no longer under the control of Satan and the power of darkness (Colossians 1:13). It means that you are now loved by God as His son. Knowing that your sins are forgiven is a big deal.

Knowing that your sins are forgiven would help you to face life with boldness that is rooted in what Christ has done for you (Ephesians 3:12). You would not be associating challenges in your life to what wrong you did in the past. You would realise that you have been accepted and loved by God (Ephesians 1:6). It would help you to live life confident in God and His saving grace.

The power to live free and fulfilled comes from the knowledge that your sins are forgiven. Like Jesus told that woman caught in adultery, you would go and sin no more (John 8:11). You receive power to say no to sin and yes to righteousness. You also receive the freedom to live the life that Jesus has ordained you to live. Truly, sin bounds, but the Son sets free (John 8:36). May you enjoy true freedom today. Amen.
