A young man came to see me sometime ago. For years, he had battled with depressing thoughts due to the mistakes he made in the past. But as he sat in with me for counselling, his eyes got opened to the divine destiny that God was working out with him. Just in a matter of weeks, things began to align. According to him; “I never knew my life could still amount to something this huge with God.” There’s a miracle in his mistakes.
Friend, you are not a mistake. God has made provisions for your mistakes as you pursue His plans and purpose for your life. Your mistakes may surprise you and disappoint people around you. But God is never surprised nor caught unawares. He knew your tendencies and behaviours long before you were born. He has factored it all in His eternal counsel and design (Romans 8:28, Ephesians 1:11).
There is a miracle in your mistake. There is a gospel in your struggle, and there is a ministry in your misery (1 Timothy 1:15-16). This is one truth that the devil does not want you to know. There is nothing you can do that would make God ask you to get lost. Your mistakes are not bigger than God’s mercies. He has always planned a comeback for you. If you remain in His hands, as the Master Porter, He knows how to fashion you into what seems good to Him (Jeremiah 18:1-4).
Perhaps you have made some mistakes in life. I want you to know that you are not the only one who has made mistakes (1 Corinthians 10:13, Hebrews 4:15-16). Mistakes are part of the process to mastery. There is no master in any field who has not made mistakes. The mistakes of the past are learning experience to get better and stronger for what lies ahead.
In life, our mistakes are not as important as our response to them. While Peter went back to God crying for forgiveness and restoration, Judas went to hang himself (Matthew 26:75, 27:3-5). Judas was so sure of his strength and smartness that he never thought he could do something like that. Perhaps pride made him hang himself. “It is better to die than to face the shame and consequence of my actions,” he might have thought.
Your worst days with God are still better than your best days with the devil (2 Samuel 24:14). It is better to fall into the hands of God than to rise on the platform of the devil. Don’t write yourself off. You might have made a mistake, but you are not a mistake. Rise up and fulfil your destiny against all odds. Amen.
