One of the statements my daughter does not want to hear from me is calling her baby. So the other day, as we set out, I told her her; “My baby, be careful so you won’t get yourself injured.” She responded; “I’m not a baby.” I equally responded; “You may not be a baby, but you are my baby.” She got the message.
Friend, you may not be a baby, but you are God’s baby (John 1:12). The mystery about growth in the kingdom is that you should grow up in maturity but grow young in dependency on God. You should not outgrow the fatherhood of God (Isaiah 46:3-4). Like I told my daughter, no matter how much you have grown, you need to remain God’s baby as you enjoy His fatherhood.
Sadly, a lot of Christians are not enjoying the fatherhood of God (Isaiah 49:14-16). The need to be responsible for their lives has made them not to take advantage of their responsible Father. While we need to take responsibility for our lives, we must not forget that our responsibility must flow from God’s responsibility (Matthew 7:11).
Seeing yourself as God’s baby would help you not to take yourself too serious. It would help you to take it easy on yourself. A lot of people do not spare themselves when they go wrong. They beat themselves, crucify themselves, and not give themselves a chance to grow and get better (Hebrews 4:15-16). This is not how God relates with us.
When you see yourself as God’s baby, it would help you to stay humble. You might be a father or grandfather, but you are not God, the Father. You need to realise that you are not El-shaddai else you shall die (Ephesians 3:20, 1 Peter 5:6). Our humility also stems from knowing that we are God’s baby.
Despite how old my daughter is, I watched out for her safety because I saw her as my baby. When you see yourself as God’s baby, you realise that He watches out for you (Deuteronomy 32:10, Zechariah 2:8). He ensures that no evil befalls you. Learn to enjoy your position as God’s baby. Amen.
