I got stuck in one of my papers on campus. It was a course I wouldn’t want to joke with. I couldn’t cheat or ask anyone in the exam. I resorted to praying in the Holy Spirit. Then the answer came! I knew what to do. I went ahead to pass the course excellently.

Friend, what do you do when you don’t know what to do? This is what you need to premeditate before life happens (Psalms 61:2). You need to do some scenario planning. Most people are not prepared for the unexpected. Like Saul, you can have a good heart but a weak mind (1 Samuel 13:11-13).

When you don’t know what to do, you must never do something stupid (Psalms 85:8). Some people give in to the pressure of the moment when they don’t know what to do. A vibrant believer ends up cheating. A holy sister ends up compromising her purity. A pastor ends up dipping his hands into Church funds. You need to know what to do when you don’t know what to do.

The truth is, only God is omniscient; all of us are limited in knowledge (1 Corinthians 13:9). We would get stuck at some points. We would need help. We need to tap into the intelligence of God at such moments (Job 32:8). God is never clueless. He is never stranded. He remains your leverage at critical junctures of destiny (Isaiah 30:20-21).

When you don’t know what to do you must know where to go. God often packages our answers in people and places (Deuteronomy 34:9). You must recognise them and be humble enough to connect (Matthew 25:9). None of us is bigger than counsels (Proverbs 20:5). It is better to go for counsel than to die in silence. It is better to seek wisdom when it is most profitable than to seek deliverance from the results of your folly.

When you don’t know what next to do, stay on the last instruction (Proverbs 4:13, 10:17). Most times, the next instruction will come out of your obedience to the last instruction. What did God tell you last? Stay on it. If He told you to wait, keep waiting. If He told you to serve, keep serving obediently. Don’t be under the pressure of what to do next as to lose sight of what God initially told you to do (1 Kings 20:40). Whatever He tells you to do, do it (John 2:5).
