I heard this story about a bishop recently. During the service, the choir ministered powerfully, and the whole church was on its feet dancing and praising God. When the bishop stood to speak, he commended the choir and everyone, then said, “You sang well. If not that I’m a bishop, I would have danced.” He could not handle divine lifting.
Friend, learn how to handle divine lifting. Don’t let your title cage your destiny. Don’t let your success choke your worship. Your glory was made to praise Him (Psalm 30:12). Whatever you have become in life must be used to exalt His name. God expects you to use your platform to declare His Lordship (Daniel 6:26).
What you have achieved must never block your thanksgiving (Philippians 3:7-10). Like the 24 elders, you must cast your crown before God (Revelation 4:10-11). He gave you the crown. He even gave you the head to wear it. What is a crown without a head? What is a certificate without breath?
As God lifts you, you must bow lower. The higher He raises you, the humbler you should become. Maybe this is why God is “careful” with lifting some people. He’s not sure who they will become after the lift. Don’t become big in your own eyes (1 Samuel 15:17).
Don’t become too big to serve and too high to bend in worship. Don’t be too settled for God to move you. Don’t let promotion become your destruction (2 Chronicles 26:16). Decide now to acknowledge God in your greatness (John 3:27, 30).
People ask why David was called “a man after God’s heart.” The secret was not his perfection. It was his priority. David danced as a boy with a sling. He also danced as a king with a crown (2 Samuel 6:14-23). He knew how to put God where He belonged no matter how high he became. What about you?
