A young minister once shared about his relationship with a senior minister, his mentor. He said, “Most people assume my mentor funded my ministry. The truth is, if I received anything from him, it was not cash. It was wisdom. That unseen deposit is what produced everything visible in my life today.” He knew what to value.
Friend, learn to value the right things. This is what separates those who go far with God. It is a mark of maturity (1 Corinthians 13:11). Children want what they can see, touch, or use right now. But as you grow in destiny, you will trade the physical for the spiritual, the seen for the unseen, and the temporary for what lasts (Hebrews 11:24-26).
Jacob valued the unseen blessing of the birthright more than porridge, so he exchanged it for the birthright. Esau only wanted instant relief. He chose temporary comfort over a permanent inheritance — and lost his future in the process (Genesis 25:32; 27:37-38).
Lack of value for eternal things is likely why God chose Jacob and set Esau aside (Romans 9:13; Hebrews 12:16). Your attitude toward God and destiny matters. God does not hand holy things to those who will treat them casually (Matthew 7:6). He won’t entrust eternal treasures to careless hands.
What Abraham passed to Isaac was also intangible (Genesis 25:5). Isaac had proven he was mature. The gifts Abraham gave to the other sons did not move him (Genesis 25:6). He was content with the unseen inheritance that would later produce visible results.
Value the unseen. Place a high premium on vision, prophecy, covenant, and the things people often overlook. Value principles over possessions. Value wisdom above money. Use material things to gain spiritual depth, not the other way around (1 Corinthians 15:46). Don’t trade your birthright for a meal.
