My daughter listened to one of my messages when she heard me say that God is a jealous God. Surprised about the use of Jealous for God, she asked me; “Can God be jealous? What does it mean?” That led to a brief bible study with her on The Jealous God.

Friend, our God is a jealous God (Exodus 34:14). This understanding is very important to your accurate relationship with God and your representing Him. The only thing some people know about God is that He is love; He is a loving God. But they don’t know the other dimensions of God, or expressions of His love.

Love is also expressed in jealousy. You would naturally be jealous over what or whom you love (2 Corinthians 11:2). If you love your spouse, you would be jealous over him or her. You would not be able to stand other people fondling with him or her. You would be protective of your spouse.

God is jealous over you. He cannot stand the devil fondling with you or life maltreating you. He is very protective of you. He has chosen to call you and make you the apple of His eyes (Deuteronomy 32:10, Zechariah 2:8). This should make you to be at peace, no matter what the devil seems to be throwing at you or what is happening around you.

God is jealous over you. He would not to share you with another. The commandment not to serve another god is not because God is insecure; your serving God or otherwise does not affect God (Exodus 34:14). It is because He wants you and all of you; He would not want to share you with another.

God’s jealousy must make you to begin to see Him differently. He is jealous over you; He wants all of you, not just some of you (Deuteronomy 10:12). He is jealous over His servants; He wants you to accord them the honour and sacredness they deserve (Numbers 12:1-8). He is jealous over His work on the earth; He does not want you to treat it anyhow (Haggai 1:1-11, Malachi 1:6-8).
