Recently, I engaged a young man in a conversation. He is a voice in his line of business in our city. He has money, cars, a beautiful family and is serving God faithfully. Thrilled by his success story, I asked; “How have you been able to thrive in our terrain?” He said; “Pastor, I’ve seen a lot in this city. It was not always like this. I had my rough beginnings. But I kept at it.” I understood what he meant.

Friend, success is a marathon, not a 100 meters dash. A lot of people are in a hurry to succeed. You started a business just last year and you are already complaining that you have not yet made it. You began on that career path just a few years ago and you are getting bothered that you have not yet emerged. Listen, you have got to be consistent in pouring labour into your vision if you want it to speak.

Every vision has a voice, it has a capacity to speak but it would only speak at the appointed time (Hebrews 2:3). You must not leave what you ought to do while complaining that nothing is happening. God would measure your commitment to the vision He has given you before He commits to you significantly (Hebrews 11:6).

The men of your vision are waiting for you in the future (Proverbs 29:18). They may not join you now but they will join you later provided you keep at what God has called you to do, remaining consistent to the end. Don’t let them find you playing truant in the school of destiny (1 Chronicles 12:18).

There is no accidental success. Success is a function of diligence and consistency in the right direction (Acts 26:19, 22). I was taught that life is about getting it right and getting better (Ecclesiastes 10:15). Once you get it right, once you get your vision and direction right in business, career, marriage, ministry etc., you need to settle down to get better (Proverbs 4:18).

Getting better entails pouring your all, giving your best continuously. You must not be a fair-weather person (Proverbs 22:13). You must be instant in season and out of season (2 Timothy 4:2). You must maintain focus and productivity daily as you submit yourself to the demands of your vision. You need to move from mere excitement to real commitment.
