An electrician was working on our power system at home. He wanted to separate some cables so we could have a neat and accessible connection. But when he was done, we noticed that some parts of the apartment had no supply of electricity. We needed to call him back to rectify the problem. He thought he was separating but he ended up disconnecting.
Friend, you need to understand and always remember that God does not always disconnect us from what He joins us to. He can separate us for a reason and season. Whereas, God separates us, the devil disconnects us. Separation may be necessary for the fulfilment of God’s purpose for our lives, but it must never be a disconnection.
“…Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them” (Acts 13:2). God separated Paul and Barnabas for another work, but it did not disconnect them. Their separation was evident to all; they did not force it to happen. They were still vitally connected to the Church. They would often return to the Church body for accountability and fellowship (Acts 14:21, 27).
“Is not the whole land before you? Separate yourself now from me…” (Genesis 13:9). For Abraham, it was a divine separation from Lot so that he could enter the next phase of God’s program for him (Genesis 13:14-18). For Lot, it was a satanic disconnection from Abraham so his destiny could be truncated (Genesis 13:10-13).
Lot could still have been separated from Abraham without being disconnected. He could still have left without disconnecting from the flow of Grace and Covenant that he once enjoyed in Abraham (Genesis 13:5). We all must know the person or people for whose sake the Lord has blessed or is blessing us and we must not allow anything to disconnect us from such; geography, offences, growth etc.
“From whom the whole body fitly joined together…” (Ephesians 4:16). When God joins you to a person, people or place, the joining is never physical and it must not be treated as such. Never submit the spiritual purpose of the joining to carnal reasons. Sometimes, wrong separation (or disconnection) from a person, people or place may be tantamount to a major disconnection from what God is doing in your life and your generation. Be guided.
