Recently, I sat to watch the TV with my younger daughter, where a newscaster wore a heavy makeup. Suddenly, my daughter turned to me and said, “Daddy, this is a doll.” I laughed and asked her the reason for saying so. Obviously, she was trying to tell me that her makeup was too much. I learnt the need to reemphasise modesty and moderation to our generation.

Friend, there is still the place of modesty and moderation in representing God correctly. You cannot be a kingdom ambassador with excesses in your life (2 Corinthians 5:20). Sadly, many Christians do not yet know how to draw the line between worldliness and godliness. The church has mixed with the world, and the world has mixed with the church (Exodus 12:38, 2 Corinthians 6:14-18).

Concerning our relationship with the world, the Bible teaches us to be separate, but not separated (2 Corinthians 6:17). We should maintain contact without contamination. To be separate is to be different. It is to operate by the highest standard of integrity and modesty (1 Timothy 4:12).

Any Christian who claims that his faith is only in his heart is nothing but a clown. Any faith that is not visible in our attitudes and actions is a scam (Matthew 5:16, James 2:18). The Bible teaches that our moderation should be known to all men (Philippians 4:5). We don’t know if you are a Christian yet until we see how you conduct your life and affairs, including wearing makeup.

Your moderation must be regulated by the Holy Scriptures and the Holy Spirit (2 Timothy 3:16). Therefore, you cannot say that moderation is relative. No matter how flamboyant you claim you are allowed by God to be, there should still be an element of moderation in it. Any gospel that tells you that you are free to do anything is not the true gospel.

Let the word of God regulate your life and your lifestyle (Psalms 119:9-11). Give the Holy Spirit a chance in your everyday choices and actions. Let Him regulate what and how you eat. Let Him dictate what you wear. Give Him the opportunity to restrict you from going overboard (Romans 8:14). The truth is, without submission to the word of God and the Spirit of God, we all have the tendency to misbehave (Galatians 5:24-25).
