I was relaxing at home the other day when something caught my attention. A small piece of cake was moving across the table on its own. When I looked closer, I saw a line of ants carrying it together. I couldn’t help but wonder, “How do creatures this small pull that off?” Right then, I remembered what the Bible says about ants.
Friend, the ants are small yet powerful (Proverbs 30:24-25). It’s amazing that God would ask us to go to the ants to learn wisdom. What could be so special about ants that we’re told to learn from them? The Bible speaks about their ways and their wisdom (Proverbs 6:6-11).
There is the way of wisdom, and there is the way of folly (Proverbs 3:17). You don’t have to be big to do big things. Like the ants, what’s working inside of you matters more than your physical size. Wisdom is justified by her children (Luke 7:35). From the ants, we learn the art of self-leadership.
Ants have no leader or guide over them, yet they accomplish massive things. They’ve mastered the art of self-leadership (Proverbs 6:7). Are you self-led? Are you a locomotive or a wheelbarrow? Some people only go as far as they’re pushed. Remove the push, and they stop moving.
Self-leadership is essential if you want to achieve anything worthwhile with your life. There will be times when friends, pastors, and the people you lean on aren’t available. Like David, learn to encourage yourself in the Lord (1 Samuel 30:6). You don’t always have to depend on external factors for your drive and motivation.
Ants are strategic. They don’t let life happen to them; they happen to life. They refuse to be victims of scarcity and hunger because they’ve learned to plan ahead (Proverbs 6:8). What about you? Are you intentional about your life and destiny? Instead of waiting for your chance in life, you need to create those chances (Ecclesiastes 9:11-12).
