Sometime ago, my daughter came home with some bills to be paid in school. I told her that I’d give her the money the next day. Shortly after, someone gave her some money. She came to me with the money and said; “Daddy, don’t worry, just add to this to pay my bills.” I responded softly; “Don’t worry. Keep your money, I’d pay your bills tomorrow as promised.”

Friend, heaven does not help those who help themselves. Listen, don’t try to help God. You need to realize that God is Yahweh, the self-existent One. God can exist without us, but we cannot exist without Him. Trying to help God is tantamount to telling Him that He is insufficient. If you can help Him, then He’s not God (Job 38:4). But Yahweh is God all by Himself.

Like my daughter, some of us have good intentions. Your intentions may be right, but your actions can be wrong according to God’s standard (2 Samuel 6:6-7). When people tell you that Heaven helps those who help themselves, you know that they are not reading the Bible (Jeremiah 10:23).

When we try to help God, we muddle up things without knowing. Some people have delayed divine manifestations in their lives by jumping ahead of God. Abraham added 13 more years to his waiting by helping God with Ishmael when God already promised Isaac (Genesis 16:15-16, 17:1). That single action still reverberates today.

Divine partnership must not be confused with divine replacement. God can bring His promise to pass with you. Partnering with God simply means allowing Him to do what only He can do in our lives. We must not promote ourselves beyond the provision of scriptures (Isaiah 40:6-8).

Where are you trying to help God in your life? Are you trying to get a job by all means, even at the expense of your Christian integrity? Are you trying to grow that church by lowering standards? What about the issue of your marriage? Are you bent on getting married to the point of throwing caution to the wind? Trying to help God will hurt your destiny in the long run (Jeremiah 17:5-6). Don’t do it!
