One of the foremost preachers in our world today was once behind the camera serving his father in the media department of their ministry. He would video his Dad’s teachings and edit them for TV broadcasts. He did this committedly for years, always staying behind the scenes. When the Dad passed on, the mantle of leadership was passed to him.

Friend, the least you can get when serving God is financial or material benefits. Kingdom people do not serve for money. They serve for inheritance (Colossians 3:23-24). Inheritance is better than money. Inheritance is what produces money and other material blessings. If you focus on the money or materials, you would lose the inheritance, and when you lose the inheritance, you would miss the future.

Have you ever wondered why Abraham gave all that he had to Isaac but gave gifts to the sons of the concubine (Genesis 25:5-6)? All that Abraham had was not talking about money or material things. It was talking of the inheritance that can only pass from a father to a son. It was talking about the covenant, grace, and commitment of God to the life of Abraham.

God often rewards sons with inheritance, not money. This is why the prodigal son would always be at the mercy of his elder brother (Luke 15:31). Whereas the prodigal son got material benefits, the elder brother had the blessing of inheritance; all that the father had was his. If you don’t lose focus in your followership of God, you will soon discover that you are better off than those who flaunt stuff before you.

If you work in an organisation or company, be careful that you are not just working for salary, but for inheritance (Colossians 3:22-25). Working for salary alone is short-changing yourself without knowing. Nobody can accurately compensate you. This is why people keep complaining that their salary is not enough. Your life is more than salary. Like Jacob, covenant people can never be cheated. You can change their wages ten times, but you cannot change their destiny of greatness (Genesis 31:1-18).

If you teach in a school, work in a church ministry, serve a boss in a business, etc., focus on the right things (2 Kings 5:20-27). When you leave that place later in life, make sure you leave with an inheritance. Leave with wisdom, experience, and goodwill. Leave with what is on your boss or leader (2 Kings 2:9-15). Leave with an open heaven that will pave the way for you in your own destiny assignment. If you cannot reproduce the grace you once worked for, you have only wasted your time.
