When my daughter was much younger, I would always caution her to face her front when taking a walk with me. As typical of little children, she would want to feed her eyes with everything she sees around; she would end up not making much progress as she walks with me. I had to teach her to fight distraction.
Friend, you need to fight distraction. You need to be intentional about maintaining focus in life and destiny. There are a lot of things out there to distract you; positive and negative. Focus requires a fight. It would not come naturally. Even the most dutiful of us still struggles staying focused (1 Corinthians 9:24-27).
As a man of destiny, your biggest challenge would not be about choosing between good and bad. It would be about choosing between good and right. Some of us would not dare consider an evil or sinful alternative but might subtly give in to an alternative that is not altogether bad. Some things are nice but are not right for you (1 Corinthians 10:23).
What do you do when you are faced with something that is good but not God (Isaiah 7:15)? What do you do when your distraction is an attraction to you? This is where fight is required; where everything within and around you is saying Yes, but your sense of destiny says No.
Vision is what establishes focus, and conviction is what strengthens it (Hebrews 12:2). When a man is clear and definite about what he should do and where he is headed, it becomes easier to maintain focus. You fight for focus by maintaining your stance on the pursuit of God’s vision for your life (Acts 26:19). A man of vision is immovable (Acts 20:24, 1 Corinthians 15:58).
You have just enough time, energy, and resources to do your destiny (Ephesians 5:15-17). This is why you must not be here and there (1 Kings 20:40). Distraction is a thief of resources. The time, energy, and resources that you use in chasing what is not in line with your destiny are already a cut down on what you should use to do destiny. What are those activities and people that are short-changing you in destiny?
