Sometime ago, we had an artisan come to work for us in Church. He’s always done little jobs for us, so we thought of encouraging him with another job, something a little big. He was meant to deliver the job in three days, but now it has taken him forever to deliver it.

The bad news for him was that we had another bigger job, like twenty times the one we gave him initially. We did not hesitate to look for another person. He missed something big because of something little.

Friend, you have to pass the faithfulness test if you would handle kingdom greatness. God will always test you with something little before He commits much into your hands. This is the principle by which the Kingdom works. If you are not faithful with what is little, you cannot be faithful with what is much (Luke 16:10-12).

David was faithful with keeping his father’s flock; God found him worthy to take care of His flock, the people of Israel (Psalms 78:70-72). When God saw the way David risked his life for ‘common’ animals, God already saw in him someone who could properly shepherd His people (1 Samuel 17:34-35). God had seen a king in him while serving faithfully (1 Samuel 16:1-13).

Greatness is seen in how we handle little stuff. You are not qualified to handle something big if you cannot handle something small in a big way. If excellence is in you, you would bring it to bear on all you do. Joseph was a man of excellence right from his father’s house. He carried the same excellence to Potiphar’s house, the prison, and eventually the palace (Genesis 37:13-14, 39:1-6, 41:38-44).

You are either qualifying or disqualifying yourself from a future of greatness by the way you are handling today. How do you handle tasks at your place of work, local church, family, and wherever you find yourself? Do you pour excellence into it or handle it with mediocrity? How do you treat little stuff? With commitment or disdain? Don’t forget that God will always test you before He trusts you (1 Samuel 16:1). May you pass the tests of God in Jesus name. Amen!
