After two days of holiday, my younger daughter was getting ready for school and sighed, “I wish there was another holiday tomorrow.” That one line caught me. I called her for a chat, and it hit me — many of us feel the same. But how can we truly enjoy our work?
Friend, you need to enjoy what you do (John 4:34). If you enjoy your work, it won’t feel like work. Work becomes fun. You either do what you love or learn to love what you do. Without love, maximum success is hard. That’s why many people are frustrated today (Psalms 19:5).
Enjoying your work starts with knowing it’s what you should be doing (Luke 2:49). 23 years ago, God told me He ordained me to preach the gospel (Isaiah 61:1). That conviction has kept me steady since. What about you? Do you have that same conviction for what you do daily?
We need men of conviction, not just men of vision (Acts 26:19). Vision starts it, conviction keeps it going, commitment finishes it. Many are excited about what God said, but excitement dies without conviction and commitment to stay the course (Acts 26:22).
Decide to love what you do. There will be hard days when you want to quit (2 Corinthians 4:5-12). Great people don’t follow feelings — they follow conviction and right decisions. You can grumble or do it with joy. But you will still have to do it. Choose joy (Psalms 118:24).
Enjoying your work also means finding better ways to do it (Ecclesiastes 10:10, 15). I found a better way to preach — I treat our church like family. No pressure, just deep connection. What better way can you do your work to unlock the fun in it?
