As the man of God stepped up the podium, he made a remark that left me thinking deeply; “If this woman had judged me by what I was when I proposed marriage to her, she would have missed her destiny. I had holes in my trousers when I asked her out. But today, God is faithful.” Don’t miss God’s best in marriage.

Friend, don’t miss God’s best in marriage (Jeremiah 29:11). Marriage is a mystery and a miracle (Ephesians 5:32). The bulk of marriage is not visible now. The best of marriage is still in the future. If you marry for the physical, you will miss the supernatural. If you marry for today, you will miss God’s best tomorrow. You need discernment as you allow God to guide you.

Sometimes, the person God chose for you to marry will not look like it in the physical (2 Corinthians 5:7, 16). You may have wanted a tall person, but God planned a short person for you. You may have wanted a popular person, but God wants a purposeful person for you. The truth is, you can want what is directly opposite what God wants for you (Proverbs 14:12).

If you follow God, you will soon discover that what God wants for you is actually what you need (Philippians 4:19). You don’t marry what or who you want. You marry who you need. You won’t know who you need until you know what God has for you in your future (Proverbs 29:18). This is why people miss God’s best in marriage; they follow their want and not their need.

As a young man, you need sensitivity to see into the destiny of the wife that God has planned for you (Genesis 2:23, Romans 8:14). As a lady, you need humility not to look down on who God has chosen for you (Psalms 45:10-11). People miss God’s best in marriage due to pride and unguided expectations. Let your desires and expectations flow from the revelation of God’s purpose for your life.

I pray for you that you won’t end up becoming the best man for the husband of the person you should have married (Judges 14:20). May you not be the event planner for the wife of the man who should have been your husband. Nothing can be more painful than being a spectator in a destiny that should have been yours (Psalms 16:5-6).
