“Something happens in church that does not happen anywhere else.” This was the statement I grew up with. It actually made me value my presence and participation in church. I learnt to be in touch and not just in church. I believe that this understanding will help you, too.
Friend, are you in church or in touch (Ephesians 4:16)? The truth is, church attendance is not the goal. You need to move from attendance to connection, from spectating to participating, from showing up to getting involved. We don’t attend church just to fulfil all righteousness. We attend church to fulfil our destiny (Psalms 92:13).
The church of Jesus Christ is the pillar and ground of the truth (1 Timothy 3:15). It is a training school. It is a capacity-building centre. It is a place of empowerment. What you will face from Monday to Saturday must have been dealt with in church on Sunday. You get wisdom, direction, empowerment, prophecies, etc., that would prepare you for what lies ahead (2 Corinthians 13:14).
You need to stop playing truant in church. You need to be in touch. You are not helping the pastor. You are helping your destiny. If you treat your church attendance the same way the pastor treats his calling in the church, you would be better off for it (1 Corinthians 12:18). Just as the pastor is called to pastor the church, you are also called to be a member of the church.
God does not just give you a seat in church. He gives you a portion of the grace, calling, covenant, and inheritance in the church (Acts 3:25). You must be well positioned. The oil only flows from the head to the parts that are connected. *Are you connected to the head (Psalms 133:1-3)? Are you connected to Jesus, the head of the church, and your local church pastor appointed and anointed by Jesus Christ?
The church is not just about you and God. If that’s the case, you could have just stayed at home and enjoyed God (1 John 1:3). Don’t isolate yourself. Fellowship with other brethren. Like David’s stones in the shepherd’s bag, connect with other members of the church so God can smoothen and shape you for destiny (1 Samuel 17:40). Don’t just be in church. Be in touch. Amen.
