I noticed that my younger daughter often ask me to carry her when I am most tired; sometimes after a long day at the Church office or when I am not just in the mood. The Holy Spirit will always whisper to me, “carry her, she needs you now”. And when do I carry her, I am always happy to see her rest on my arms with reckless abandon. It makes her feel that there is no hassle, she’s in her father’s hands!
Friend, God wants to carry you. Unlike me and all human fathers, God is never tired. He is the Omnipotent God. He never gets exhausted. He always wants to carry you even when you don’t think He would. He wants to carry the loads of cares and concerns in your heart (1 Peter 5:7). If He carries the weight of this world, He will carry you. If at the cross, Christ carried the weight of the sins of the world, He can help you out with your sins and addictions (Isaiah 53:4).
What you need to do is to run to His saving hands in reckless abandon. He will never reject you. He says, “come unto me all you that labour and are heavy laden and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). There is rest for you in God. There is pleasure at His right hand even in the midst of the pressures of life (Psalms 16:11). He wants to carry you.
You cannot afford to do life alone. You don’t have the capacity to do so. This is why at salvation, Jesus welcomes you into His rest (Matthew 11:28-30). This is why the Holy Spirit has been given to us as our Helper; the one who provides the supports, encouragements and comforts that we need in the journey of life (John 14:16). Let the Holy Spirit do His job in your life!
It is amazing how a lot of people still unconsciously insist on carrying their burdens through life even though help is within reach. As much as God knows that you need help, He wants you to ask for one. He will not intrude into your life and affairs. He wants you to welcome Him in. Like my daughter, God wants you to say, “Daddy, carry me.” Like Lazarus’s sisters, Jesus wants you to show Him where the problem lies (John 11:34, 41).
As you go into today, I want you to leverage the help that is available for you in God. It does not matter what life throws at you, you have got a loving, responsible and dependable Father in God. Go to Him in prayers and offload! You need to “be careful for nothing but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving make your requests known unto God” (Philippians 4:6). May you enjoy divine rest and peace today in Jesus name. Amen!
