Recently, I came across one of my writeups years ago and it blessed me again: If your temperature rises or falls based on what you see on social media, the devil has known the button to press in order to keep you perpetually depressed. Don’t give him that chance. Celebrate your progress. God is faithful to you. I mean, you! This charge is evergreen.
Friend, learn to celebrate your progress (Philippians 1:6). Always remind yourself that you may not be where you want to be but you are not where you used to be. If you look and think deeply, you would realize that things have not been that bad. In the midst of it all, you have some little wins.
Learning how to manage expectations is a critical skill for highflyers (Psalms 27:13). While visionary living teaches you to dream and expect big things, you must not never allow the pressure of unmet dreams and goals to debar you from savouring the best of the moment. You need to be contented (Hebrews 13:5-6).
Contentment is enjoying where you are on the road to where you are going. Some people don’t really enjoy their lives. They are always dreaming, aiming, working, pursuing and all that. While all these are very important, they are not as important as enjoying your best life now (Psalms 118:22-24).
You need to take a pause and celebrate your progress. What have you achieved this year? How has God been faithful to you? What have you been able to pull through? Celebrate it. Nothing is too small to celebrate. Celebrating little wins provides the energy to pursue and achieve big dreams (1 Samuel 17:37). This is why your vision must be broken down into little, realizable goals.
Don’t wait till the year ends before you take stock of your life and progess. Perhaps, the antidote to that depression coming to you lately is in celebrating your progress. Things are not that bad with you. The problem may be that you are using someone else’s position to measure your own progress (2 Corinthians 10:12).
