A young man sat in an interview for a job. After going through his credentials and all the discussions, they decided to ask about his church. When he mentioned the name of his church and pastor, the head of the interview panel remarked; “If this man of God knows you enough to sign for you, you have this job already.” That’s how the young man got the job.
Friend, credibility is important in life and destiny. People are looking for credible people everywhere (Proverbs 20:6). Companies and organisations are looking for those they can trust. They are looking for those who are dependable. Especially in our world where people are often unstable in their character and dealings, you can choose to stand out (Daniel 6:3).
Where you are coming from is often an indication of what to expect from you (2 Kings 3:11-12). This is why you must be accountable to someone and somewhere. What those whom you have had contact with say about you matters a lot. It is not enough to attend a church. Be a good church member. It is not enough to know everybody. Let someone know you well too (1 Samuel 16:18).
If you must leave a job or workplace, leave well. If your new employer were to call your former employer, would you get the job (Genesis 30:27-28)? What would your former boss or pastor say about you that would open doors and unlock your next level of greatness? The fact that you don’t care about this is already a credibility issue (Proverbs 10:7).
Your CV is not just what is written on a paper. It is what’s written in the hearts of men (2 Corinthians 3:2-3). Do you leave a bitter or sweet taste in the mouth of those who have had contacts with you? When you exit a door, do you slam the door or close it gently? It is not enough for God to speak well of you. The right people also need to speak well of you (Luke 2:52).
Perhaps your social capital is your most important capital (Proverbs 22:1). What would your current clients or customers say about you that would convince others to do business with you? Are you only interested in making money while spoiling your name (SoS 1:3). Destiny becomes easier when we learn to build bridges rather than erect walls.
