A young lady met her pastor after a brother proposed to her. When asked about her conviction, she replied, “Sir, my answer is no. I don’t see the teachings and spirit of this house in his life and character.” The pastor understood her instantly. Her standard was clear.

Friend, finding the right partner starts with the right positioning (Ruth 3:1-6). People are watching you more than you think. Your daily lifestyle is already qualifying or disqualifying you before your potential spouse. This doesn’t mean you should live to please people. It means live out godly values daily (1 Peter 3:1-7).

I have observed that men rarely settle with ladies they only play around with, and vice versa (Genesis 2:18-23). This troubles many singles. They mistake popularity for readiness. They assume that because people like them, marriage will automatically follow. What they miss is this: people can enjoy you without seeing you as a life partner (Proverbs 18:22).

Wise people think deeply before choosing a spouse (Proverbs 20:5). They look beyond looks, charm, and sweet words. They examine character, values, and how you treat others. Being nice to one person is not proof of character. The real test is how you treat ordinary people and strangers (1 Samuel 25:25).

When Abraham’s servant saw how Rebekah served him at the well, he knew she was the one for Isaac (Genesis 24:12-21). Ladies, how do you act in casual places? Gents, how do you behave at work and at home? Do you act holy in church but harsh elsewhere? Do you honour pastors but disrespect those with no title over you (Proverbs 25:24)?

It often puzzles the undiscerning why some who seem less gifted or beautiful get married faster (Proverbs 31:30). If what should be easy feels hard, don’t rush to bind the devil. Pause and check for gaps. Ask God to open your eyes and help you close them. Life, including marriage, is about positioning (Proverbs 4:7).
