As I came home from work that day, I carried my son like I always do. But I noticed he was soaked in perfume. I got to know he’d been playing with perfume bottles and emptied quite a bit. In that moment, one picture filled my heart: Mary, breaking her alabaster box. It was an abundance mentality.

Friend, it’s time to break your alabaster box (Mark 14:3). God never designed you for a life of “not enough.” Some people live in lack. Others live with just enough to survive. But God calls His children to a life of more than enough. That’s abundant life; superior in quality and super abundant in quantity (John 10:10).

When Mary broke her alabaster box and poured expensive oil on Jesus, the disciples called it waste. Mary called it worship (Luke 7:37-48). She was not pouring out oil. She was pouring out gratitude for the mercy she had already received (Luke 6:38).

Beyond money, Jesus was teaching something deeper. The secret to having what you lack is to give what you lack. What you hold back is what you will miss (Proverbs 11:24). Withhold love, and you will live thirsty for it. Withhold mercy, and mercy and favour will avoid you (Proverbs 3:3-4).

In the world, they wait to receive before they give. In the kingdom, we trigger receiving by giving (Acts 20:35). God is not calling you to be reactive, waiting for people to bless you before you bless them. He’s calling you to be proactive. To trigger your harvest by your seed. To do for others what you are praying they do for you (Luke 6:31).

Move from scarcity mentality to abundance mentality (2 Corinthians 9:8). Scarcity says, “I don’t have enough to give.” Entitlement says, “I deserve to receive first.” Abundance says, “I will give because God is my source.” What you make happen for others, God will make happen for you (Galatians 6:7-9). Break your alabaster box.
