Anytime my children noticed a mark on my body or that of their mum, they’d refer to it as a birthmark. “Birthmark” became their catchphrase for a while. I wondered where they got the idea from. I had to educate them. But it led to another revelation.

Friend, you have got the mark of Jesus on you. It’s true that some people are born with physical birthmarks. But it’s truer that every child of God has spiritual birthmarks. Even if you don’t have any physical birthmark on your body now, you’ve got a spiritual birthmark if you’re born again (Galatians 6:17).

Salvation places the mark of Jesus’ ownership on you. With this mark, Jesus knows you and owns you (John 10:1-14). You’re not your own. You’re not available to strange spirits and sicknesses (Exodus 23:25). If you’re not conscious of the mark of ownership Jesus placed on you, you’ll keep falling victim to satanic assaults.

Like the Israelites put the blood on their doorposts while the destroyer passed by, there’s the mark of the blood on your life, too (Exodus 12:13). The blood didn’t just save you – it also marks you for safety and preservation (Psalms 91:1-10, Revelation 12:11). Destruction or death isn’t permitted to come near you. Fear not.

There’s the mark of the covenant on every born-again person (Acts 3:25). Our experiences on earth are supposed to be different from ordinary people. Others may speak of being cast down, but for us, there’s lifting (Job 22:29). The covenant makes all the difference.

Like Jeremiah, you have the mark of divine destiny on your life (Jeremiah 1:4-5). God marked you for a higher purpose and destiny. Don’t live carelessly. It’s this mark that makes your journey in life peculiar. God supervises the circumstances around your life (Ephesians 1:11, 2:10). Be conscious of your spiritual birthmarks today.
