I heard a touching story of a father in a boat accident with only one life jacket. He chose to give it to his son’s friend and watched his own son drown. When asked why, he said, “I’m sure my son is saved and headed to heaven. I’m not sure about his friend.” It was painful, but his choice was driven by eternity.
Friend, are you conscious of your eternal destiny (2 Timothy 4:6-8)? Eternity-consciousness is fading from many believers today. We plan for this life, chase comfort, and seek approval, yet rarely think of what comes after. Some Christians compromise to gain the world and ignore the eternal weight of those choices (Galatians 6:7-9).
How about the people around you? If you can work, sleep, and go through life with no burden for lost souls, examine your walk with God (Revelation 2:4-5). A mark of true salvation is love for the lost. If you truly love those closest to you, you will introduce them to Christ. Silence in the face of eternity is not love (John 3:16).
What will your faith cost you? Salvation cost Jesus His life, so our Christianity must cost us something too (2 Corinthians 5:14-20). Like the father in our opening story, we must drop convenient Christianity and advance God’s kingdom. If it costs us nothing now, it won’t pay us in eternity (2 Samuel 24:24).
Life decisions must be made with eternal perspective, not just emotions (2 Corinthians 5:7). Most parents would save their own child first. But this father considered greater eternal benefit. The boy he rescued later became an influential preacher of the gospel, with multiplied kingdom fruits (1 Corinthians 15:8-10).
We are seated with Christ in heavenly places as a reminder that our life is beyond here and now (Colossians 3:1-4). It means we should care about what heaven cares about. Nothing excites heaven more than souls saved and God’s kingdom established (Luke 15:7). The question is simple: will you get involved?
