A young lady was involved in catering business. After her pastor saw the emotions she’s putting into the business, giving people who came to visit her canteen free meals, the pastor advised her. He told her; “You don’t have the right mindset for this business. Why not look for another business to do?”
Friend, there is a mindset of business that anyone who wants to succeed in life and business must possess (Romans 12:11). As much as we are emotional beings, we must know when not to be emotional about important matters like business. Anyone who can put his emotion in the proper place when dealing in life is truly mature (Proverbs 25:28).
The mindset of business is the mindset of intentionality (Philippians 3:10-14). Many people are not intentional about life and business. They do things on impulse. Some even do what is in vogue rather than focus on what they consider important and right for them. They live by their emotion, not their decision (John 4:33-34).
Successful business people are serious people (Romans 12:11). To them, business is not just what they do in their past time. They approach it as a calling. They give their time, attention, and dedication to it (1 Timothy 4:15). I believe that if people are more serious about their lives and enterprise, they will get better result, with the help of God.
If you see the way Jesus took his life and ministry right from the age of twelve, you would understand why he finished at age 33 (Luke 2:49). If you also face life as a business, you will also finish well and strong. As a student, face your academics as a business. As a pastor, face your ministry as a business. Don’t just be busy. Be in business (1 Thessalonians 4:11).
The mindset of business is the mindset of productivity and profitability (Luke 19:13). Like that lady in our opening story, some people are not profit oriented. They are in busyness, not in business. God wants us to be stewards of our time, opportunities, and the resources He gives us. He wants us to make profits (Matthew 25:24-30). It is the mindset of business.
