Recently, we drove up a steep hill for a family event. It was tough, but it was easy going down. My daughter asked, “Why was it hard to go up but easy to come down?” I replied, “In life, climbing up is tough, but sliding down is easy. Learn to sustain your heights.”
Friend, you need to learn to sustain heights (Nehemiah 6:3). Climbing up is always tough, but coming down is easy. You don’t need any effort to go down. In life, you are either going up or coming down. Like climbing a hill, you only have the option of making progress or returning to the ground (1 Corinthians 9:24-27). There is no middle point.
Instead of saying; “See you at the top.” It is better to say, “Meet you at the top.” God does not want you to just see your friends and colleagues at the top while you remain on the ground (Matthew 14:28-30). He wants you to meet them at the top by paying prices that would ensure this.
Heights are not permanent. They are sustained by motion and determination (Philippians 3:12-14). A lot of people have moved up a number of times, but they always found themselves coming down. They have not learned how to sustain heights. They keep falling and rising (Proverbs 24:16).
Unfortunately, when many people get up, they stop doing what took them up (1 Timothy 4:13-16). They stop praying the way they used to pray. They stop living a life of discipline. They stop walking in humility. They stop listening to voices of instructions and corrections in their lives. They start violating their consecration (2 Corinthians 7:1).
Where have you come down lately? Is it in your walk with God, finance, career, business, or ministry (Micah 7:8)? Like Jesus told the church of Ephesus, you need to go back to what you were doing before (Revelation 2:4-5). For you to remain a champion in life, you need to commit to doing what champions do daily. This is how to sustain heights.
