Years ago, I taught our church members something very profound. I told God’s people that “The same way people respond to altar call for salvation and for healings is the same way they need to respond to altar call for prosperity.” People see sin and sickness as abnormal but still tolerate poverty or just explain it away. This is not supposed to be so. We need to rethink prosperity today.

Friend, you need to rethink your theology and mindset about prosperity. You need to understand that prosperity is part of God’s plan for His children (Psalms 35:27, 3rd John 1:2). Christ’s finished work has not only dealt with the sin problem, but it has also dealt with the sickness and poverty problem. We need to enforce our dominion over finances as we do over sin (2 Corinthians 8:9).

God has a purpose for whatever He does in our lives. God is not first committed to our comfort or convenience but to His purpose for our lives (Isaiah 46:10-11). The way to secure divine commitment is to align ourselves with divine purposes. This is a major key to living a life of abundance.

God prospers us for the advancement of His kingdom. Any wealth that is not used for this purpose will not last (Haggai 1:1-11). God prospers us to fund His purpose for our lives, not our comfort or agenda (Zechariah 1:17). God prospers us to be a blessing to others; we are meant to be channels of God’s blessings, not destinations of it (Genesis 12:1-3).

God prospers us to take care of our responsibilities and obligations (Ephesians 4:28, 1 Timothy 5:8). God prospers us for our enjoyment (1 Timothy 6:17). God is not against our enjoyment. He only wants us to prioritize His kingdom and purpose above all else. If your reason for asking for financial prosperity coincides with God’s own reason, you would get it faster than you imagine.

You need to rethink your reason for desiring financial blessings. If it seems like God’s blessings in your life are delayed, check your motives (1 Samuel 1:9-17, James 4:1-3). God wants us to get to that point where His reasons become our reasons. He wants us to get to a place of surrender; a place where money becomes a tool for fulfilling purpose and not a toy that distracts us. You need to rethink prosperity today.
