I once heard of a young Muslim guy who vowed to marry a Christian sister. He pursued one until she agreed to marry him. When asked why, he said, “She will be bound by her Bible not to misbehave, so I can live how I like.” That mindset is still common today, and it ruins homes.
Friend, you need to marry your type. That was the test Adam passed. God brought all the animals to him, but he found none like himself (Genesis 2:19-20). When he saw Eve, he became a poet; “This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh.” He married his type (Genesis 2:23).
Many marital pains today would end if people married their type (Proverbs 5:15-21). This is why some who don’t know God still enjoy peace at home. They marry someone they understand. Of all relationship factors, chemistry matters most (Job 41:17).
Don’t marry someone you cannot cope with (Genesis 24:56-60). If he loves all-night prayer and you hate it, don’t marry him and then kill his zeal. One sister planned to drug her fiancé when they married so he would sleep and miss vigil. She simply hated all-night prayers (Proverbs 31:18).
Marry your type. Let Muslim marry Muslim, and Christian marry Christian. If you are a Waster, marry a Waster like you, so you won’t ruin a prudent spouse (Proverbs 18:9). If you love parties, marry your type, so you won’t punish your spouse with loneliness. If you don’t believe in giving for the kingdom, don’t marry a giver and frustrate his stewardship (John 12:1-8).
Don’t use marriage to punish someone (Malachi 2:13-16). If you dislike intimacy, don’t marry a person with a high drive. If you don’t want ministry, don’t marry a minister and slow him down. Singles, look well before you leap. Courtship always shows what marriage will be unless love blinds you. Marriage is too long to travel with the wrong companion (Amos 3:3).
