Years ago, I picked up a cutlass to clear around our home. As I swung it, I hit a cemented surface, and it went blunt. I had to adjust my approach so I could be effective in the work. I needed to maintain my cutting edge.
Friend, you need to maintain your cutting edge. God wants to make you a new, sharp threshing instrument (Isaiah 41:15). Avoid dullness. Iron sharpens iron, but wood dulls it (Proverbs 27:17). What’s dulling you? If you are destined for greatness, avoid “wooden” relationships.
Beware of mixtures that bring dullness (Psalms 1:1-3). They are satanic strategies to polarize your strength (Hosea 7:8). Lukewarmness comes from mixing hot with cold (Revelation 3:15-16). The devil does not mind your fire; he just adds mixtures to reduce your potency.
Why can’t you hear God’s voice like before (John 10:27)? Perhaps it’s relationships or activities dulling you. Whatever or whoever is not sharpening you is dulling you. You need to intentionally choose sharpening activities and relationships (Ecclesiastes 10:10). Learn to pray in tongues regularly (Jude 1:20).
Some relationships help your sensitivity and receptivity (Acts 13:2). Perhaps God is speaking, but your environment or atmosphere is wrong. Locate the right ones for you. That’s why Church is key – it’s a place where we sharpen each other (Hebrews 10:25).
Spiritual sensitivity is not a gift; it is built through spiritual activities (Luke 1:80, 1 Timothy 4:7-8). Don’t get dulled before critical moments (2 Kings 2:3,10). Build sensitivity before you need it. Some decisions require instant response – that’s when prior sharpness helps (Romans 8:14). Maintain your cutting edge.
