A man of God was asked if he was still following his spiritual father; a man he’d followed since college. The question reflected a common mindset today. His response emphasized an important truth: “You don’t suddenly change your father because you have grown and become a father yourself.”

Friend, loyalty is rare but golden. One of the prophecies about the last days is that people would be unfaithful. Loyalty would be scarce (2 Timothy 3:1-5). People would treat loyalty with levity. In fact, disloyalty would be celebrated. Loyalty is an integrity issue. It speaks to your character, not only towards the person you are disloyal to but also towards other areas of your life (Proverbs 25:19).

Never allow a disloyal person around your space. If you do, you have just signed up for another episode of disloyalty from him (1 Kings 2:5-6). Someone who jilted a lady to marry you is likely going to jilt you, too. Someone who left a church or ministry in a rebellious way would rebel against you, too (2 Timothy 4:14-15).

You must learn to identify disloyal people. You would see it in their voices and stories (Proverbs 20:6). You would see it in their attitudes and perspectives. You would see it in the way they talk about other people. Like David stated, their mouth speaks vanity, and their right hand is that of falsehood (Psalm 144:11).

Loyalty is a journey. You cannot prove it in a day. It is proven over time (Luke 22:28-30). It is time, seasons, and circumstances that can fully tell who people are. The same person who tells you he would do anything for you might be the first person to run when you are in trouble. Observe how people behave under different circumstances (2 Samuel 12:27-28).

Loyal people are treasured and greatly rewarded (Proverbs 20:6, 28:20). Determine to be loyal. Don’t turn your back against the person who has contributed greatly to your life. Pass the test of loyalty. Weather the storms as you go through seasons (John 6:66-68). Make up your mind to honour God and His ordained relationships in your life.
