Recently, I stumbled over a clip on the TV with my daughters. It was about body enhancement. At first, I wanted to change the channel because of my children, but I thought to leave it so I could educate them. To my amazement, before I could say anything, my older daughter started lecturing me.
She said something like; “People who go for this body enhancement really have low self-esteem.” She went ahead to say this; “You need to look at yourself in the mirror and appreciate who and how God has made you. That’s what we were taught in our school just last week.” She literally schooled me on sef-esteem.
Friend, you need to have healthy self-esteem. Your self-esteem comes from your self-image. How you see yourself is what determines how you carry yourself. Having healthy self-esteem is crucial to living securely and successfully. Your life cannot be better than your thoughts (Proverbs 23:7).
God wants us to think highly of ourselves, but not more highly (Romans 12:3). It is not humility to think low of yourself, and it is pride to think more highly of yourself. You need to think of yourself the way God thinks of you.
You cannot know yourself until you know what God has said concerning you. You cannot know what God has said concerning you until you know God (Matthew 16:15-19). You cannot know God until you know His word. What has God written concerning you in His word? He says that you are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalms 139:14).
Stop looking for validation from people. Stop living your life to prove a point. Rather, live to maximize your potential and fulfil your purpose (2 Timothy 2:15). Be comfortable under your own skin. Don’t think you are too short, tall, thin, or fat. Don’t complain about the colour of your skin. No human being is the standard of perfection and beauty; only God is.
Stop comparing yourself with others (2 Corinthians 10:12). Don’t think you are lesser or better than anyone. You are just uniquely you. God designed you to fit into His unique plan and purpose for you (Ephesians 2:10). Carry yourself with dignity. Get healed from your past. Embrace the reality of your present as you transition to your glorious future in God.
