A Christian brother and sister struggled with sexual issues in their relationship. They fasted and prayed, seeking breakthrough. On the final day, they prayed together in a private setting, but unfortunately, they succumbed to temptation and engaged in sexual activity. They did not know how to fight temptations.
Friend, you need to know how to fight temptations (1 Corinthians 10:13). As long as we are on this earth, we will be faced with temptations. Abraham, Joseph, David, and even our Lord Jesus Christ were tempted. Abraham, Joseph, and Jesus overcame (Luke 4:1-14). David did not.
Temptation is not a sin. It is yielding to the temptation that is the sin (2 Samuel 11:1-5). We need to leverage God’s grace and wisdom to overcome temptations. You cannot do it by your own power or strength. By strength shall no man prevail (1 Samuel 2:9).
Don’t live in presumption (Psalm 19:13). When you assume you cannot fall and when you rely on your own strength, you are already living in presumption. Samson depended on his strength. Peter also boasted that he would not deny Jesus. He failed woefully (Matthew 26:69-75).
Temptations are divine opportunities to test our conviction (Genesis 22:1-18). Each temptation you overcome positions you for greater things in God. When Joseph overcame the temptation with Potiphar’s wife, he moved to the next level of divine program for his life (Genesis 39:9-12).
Leverage God’s wisdom packaged in scriptures (Proverbs 4:7). It is wisdom to flee from every appearance of evil. Don’t put yourself in a compromising situation. Have an accountability relationship in your life (Hebrews 13:17). You need someone in your life who would hold you to the highest standard of integrity.
