Two friends vacationing on an island stumbled upon a community with a peculiar custom – no one wore shoes. One friend was repelled by the sight, while the other saw a business opportunity. He envisioned providing shoes to the community, generating income, and making a positive impact. We need eyes that see.

Friend, you need eyes that see (Proverbs 20:12). Truly, many eyes look, but few eyes see. Until your eyes are opened to see possibilities, you are still in darkness. God wants to open your eyes to see what He’s doing in your life and your environment. Like Paul prayed, we need eyes that see (Ephesians 1:15-18).

There are four kinds of sights; normal sight, insight, hindsight, and foresight. Unfortunately, many people only have normal sight (Acts 28:27). They lack insight, hindsight, and foresight. They lack vision. Vision is foresight based on insight with the benefit of hindsight. You can have normal sight but lack vision (Proverbs 29:18).

Insight is the eyes of your heart (Ephesians 1:18). It is what you see in your heart. It is what you see when your normal eyes are closed. Hindsight is what you see based on your interaction with the past – history and your life’s journey. Foresight is the ability to see ahead. What do you see ahead? What can you see about the future and the coming year (Habakkuk 2:1-4)?

The difference between success and failure is sight (Proverbs 22:2, 29:13). God does not make some people rich and others poor. God gave everyone the benefit of sight. It is what we do with the sight that determines where we belong. Like those two friends, different people can be in the same situation but see differently (2 Corinthians 4:18).

What do you see (Jeremiah 1:11-12)? Do you see problems or opportunities? Do you focus on what the devil is doing or what God is doing? Do you focus on what you don’t have or what you have? If you want to change your life, change what you see. Like blind Bartimaeus, the greatest prayer you can ever pray is to receive your sight (Mark 10:46-51).
