As we talked that day, I noticed how hurt she was. She told me she was going back to the place where she was offended to give them trouble. Her words were, “I’ll let them know I’m not stupid; I’ll give it to them like they want it.” My response was, “Don’t waste your emotions on minor issues.”

Friend, don’t waste your emotions on minor issues. As far as your outcomes in life are concerned, you have two choices: win to lose or lose to win. How you relate with God and His demands on your life will decide your victory or defeat (2 Corinthians 12:8-9).

Winning to lose is a temporary victory that brings permanent defeat, while losing to win is a temporary defeat that brings permanent victory. Jacob lost to win. After struggling with the angel, he got broken – his thigh was out of joint. But this marked the beginning of great things in his life (Genesis 32:24-28).

It’s better to lose to God than to the devil (Genesis 6:3). If you insist on having your way, God may let you have it. If God asks you to drop a bad habit, you’d better let Him have His way, or the enemy will triumph over you. This was Samson’s downfall (Judges 14:3, 16:21).

In life, there are minor battles and major battles. Wisdom says, “lose the minor battles to win the major ones.” For David, confronting his brothers was a minor battle; he let it slide. Facing Goliath was the major battle that defined his destiny (1 Samuel 17:26-30).

Like David, don’t waste your emotions on minor battles. Stop holding onto offences when God has a blessing for you (Song of Solomon 2:15). You can’t be offended and anointed at the same time. Watch out for distractions when breakthrough is near (2 Corinthians 2:11). The devil can’t destroy you unless he distracts you.
