My daughter joined me in listening to a recorded message where she heard the preacher quote 1 Corinthians 2:9. To my utter amazement, she was quoting the scripture along with the preacher. I asked her, “where and how did you learn it?” Her response further amazed me. She said, “I always heard you pray with that scripture.” I was challenged. I was encouraged. I was fulfilled. I was the unconscious teacher, she’s the conscious learner!
In life, there would be many unconscious teachers but you must decide never to be an unconscious learner. The truth is this, everyday can be a learning day if you position yourself to be a learner. Every situation and circumstance can be a learning experience for you if you have the heart to learn. You need to be a lifelong learner!
Learning is a skill. I believe that we all need to learn how to learn. Not too many people are truly learning. Many read books, attend programs, hang around great leaders and coaches but are not learning the right things or at least, as they should learn. Leaders are not just readers, they are learners. Your life cannot be better than your learning. Your earning power is determined by your learning power.
Nobody can outgrow learning and you must never be ashamed to be called “a learner”. It is a mark of wisdom to take the posture of a learner in life; “A wise man will hear, and will increase learning” (Proverbs 1:5). Learning begins with a heart posture; if you have a wrong heart you cannot learn right. Pride and presumption are enemies of learning. When you get before or around your teachers, you need the humility of a learner. You must not be talking where you should be listening and learning.
Life will always present you with opportunities to learn. Learning takes a decision. You can learn something positive in a negative situation. You can learn how not to treat your would-be spouse by observing how badly your aunties or uncles treats their spouses while you are staying with them. You can learn how not to run a business or pastor a Church by your observing your boss or pastor. You can learn how to do well in your life and endeavors by your positioning around great leaders.
As you go into today, posture yourself as a lifelong learner. Learn the right things. Unlearn the wrong things. Relearn the things you thought you knew before. Get rid of pride. Don’t feel to big to learn from those who are lesser than you. I learn from my children and my associates in Church. I learn from everyone, everything and everywhere! You can even learn wisdom from a fool (Proverbs 24:30-32). May you emerge into greatness as you decide to be a lifelong learner in Jesus name. Amen!
