One man of God made a remark about my spiritual father at a conference. He said, “We, as ministers, teach faith, but this man of God doesn’t just teach faith; he lives by it.” That simple remark emphasized the need to prioritize doing over preaching. You need to be a doer of the Word.

Friend, you need to be a doer of the Word (James 1:22-25). This is the only way your life can reflect the truth of the Word of God. Actually, God wants our lives to be living epistles. He wants our lives to mirror the truth of the Word of God. Like Christ, we declare God’s message and show forth His glory as the Word becomes flesh in us (John 1:14).

Our lives must mirror the Scriptures (Hebrews 10:5-7).
Biblically, when you talk about faith, we look to Abraham. For wisdom, Solomon comes to mind. For excellence in work and governance, we have Daniel and Joseph. Mary is an example of purity and purpose readiness (Luke 1:26-31).

What would your generation remember you for? What Scripture are you living out in practical terms (2 Corinthians 3:1-6)? Are you a living epistle? Are you living in such a way that your life becomes a model for others? Is your life a motivation or a caution for other believers and the world at large (Hebrews 6:12)?

Becoming a doer of the Word begins with becoming a student of the Word (Luke 2:42-52). Jesus, at age 12, was already addicted to the Word of God and the things of destiny. What are you addicted to? Until you esteem the Word of God more than your necessary food, you won’t be a doer of the Word (Job 23:12).

We don’t eat to preach about eating; we eat to live. We don’t study to preach; we study to live (Acts 1:1). Jesus won’t rate you by how much you shout during church services, but by your obedience. This is the mark of a disciple: a doer of the Word, at the workplace, family, car park, wedding party, mall, etc. (Acts 11:26). Are you a doer of the Word?
