A young woman shared her openness to God’s plan for her marriage with her pastor. He asked, ‘What if God’s choice has tribal marks?’ Her response sparked reflection: ‘God doesn’t make mistakes.’ She wasn’t prepared to compromise her preferences for God’s will.
Friend, you need to take your will to the cross of Jesus (Luke 9:23). This is one of the best definitions of the cross of Jesus; a place where the will of God crosses out your own will. It is the place of surrender. Like Jesus at Gethsemane, you need to get to that point where you tell God; “Not as I will, but as you will (Matthew 26:39).”
Just as the battle for the human race was won at Gethsemane, the battle for the fulfilment of your destiny is either won or lost in the place of prayer (Colossians 4:12). Prayer is not about you pushing your will to God to stamp. It is a place where you discover and submit to the will of God for your life (Matthew 6:10).
The greatest force in the universe is the force of the will of God (Isaiah 46:10-11). The will of God cannot be stopped by Satan. Therefore, aligning with the will of God makes you unstoppable. The truly strong man is not one who is strong-willed. It is one who is following the will of God for his life. Submitting your will to the will of God is a mark of wisdom (Acts 9:5-6).
The reason God created us with a will is so that we can obey him willingly and not out of compulsion (Philippians 2:12-13). We are to serve Him out of love, not out of law. God does not want us to use our will against His will. He wants us to use our will to follow His will for your lives (Hebrews 10:5-7).
The will of God does not always make sense to the natural mind, but it is the best (Romans 12:2). Choosing to follow the will of God for your life shows that you trust God’s love, wisdom, and purpose. Knowing that God knows tomorrow more than you know yesterday should bring you to a place of surrender (Jeremiah 29:11-12). You need to submit your will to the cross of Jesus.
