As I sat with the young nan in counselling, I took time to listen to him. He kept saying a lot of the things working against him; his background, environment, age, qualifications, etc. When I was to respond to him, I only asked him a question; “Do you know what is working for you?” That’s when it dawned on him that he had been focusing on the wrong things.

Friend, what have you been focusing on (Hebrews 12:2)? Is it what is working against you or what is working for you? You might have a lot that seems to be working against you. But you need to take a break and ask what’s working for you. As a child of God, you need to realise that what is working for you is more than what is working against you (Romans 8:37).

What you focus on is what is magnified in your life (2 Corinthians 4:16-18). What you constantly talk about you would constantly experience. As a Christian, you need to know Christ has done for you, who you are in Christ, what you have in Christ, and what you can do in Christ. This knowledge will completely change your perspective about life (Romans 8:28). It would also affect your results.

Sometimes, it is not a change of situation you need. It is a change of sight (Problems 29:13). The problem of that servant of Elisha was not the enemy around. It was his blindness to the presence and power of God that surrounded him and Elisha. This was why Elisha did not have to pray that the enemy would go away. He only needed to pray for his eyes to be opened (2 Kings 6:15-17).

Your eyes need to be opened to see what you have in Christ (Ephesians 1:18). You need to know what is working for you. If you think the economy is working against you, then you need to know that the covenant is also working for you. The covenant is stronger than the economy of your nation. The covenant is stronger than the exchange rate. With the covenant, you can prosper anywhere ordained for you by God (Philippians 4:19).

Stop putting your problems in your mouth. Start putting God’s promises and prophecies in your mouth (Hebrews 13:5-6). The problems are no match for your prophecies. They have been ordained to handle your problems. I know ancestral curses are a fact in the lives of people today. But you need to know the truth about ancestral blessings (Galatians 3:13-14). Which one would you activate today?
