The first time my pastor asked me to take a slot in church as a teenager, I almost froze. I actually told him I cannot and I would not. But he insisted I took it. Little did I know that such an opportunity would begin my journey into discovering, developing, and deploying my God-given gifts and calling. I began to fan to flame the gifts of God in my life.

Friend, you need to fan to flame the gift of God that is in you (2 Timothy 1:6). Your gift is God’s contribution to you and your destiny. What you do with it is your gift back to God and the kingdom. When the Holy Spirit came into your life, He did not come empty. He came loaded with gifts. The Holy Spirit is the gift of God that manifests other gifts in and through you (Philemon 1:6).

Your relevance to God, the kingdom, and life generally is determined by the extent to which you discover, develop, and deploy your God-given gifts and abilities (Acts 13:36). The Holy Spirit gives you special abilities so that you can be a blessing to the kingdom and the world at large. If you don’t work on and work your gift, you won’t make the mark you are meant to make (1 Timothy 4:12).

Like Paul told Timothy, you need to fan to flame the gifts of God in you (2 Timothy 1:6-7). It is possible for the gift to be lying dormant due to your environment and relationships (1 Corinthians 15:33). Like Samuel to Saul, the manifestation of the Holy Spirit in your life can be determined by the environment you find yourself (1 Samuel 10:5-7).

Praying in the Holy Spirit gives you the opportunity to stir up the gift of God (Jude 1:20). It is like shaking a drug bottle. The concentrate will not come up until you shake it. The gifts of the Holy Spirit are stirred up as you pray in tongues. You need to invest time daily praying in the Holy Spirit as you manifest God’s gift (1 Corinthians 14:18).

What you don’t use, you would soon lose, and what you use multiplies (Matthew 25:14-30). Fan the gifts of God in you to flame by use. No gift is too little, and none is too big to be used. Those who make themselves available for God will always have the gift of God function through them. Use your gifts to serve God and His purpose in your generation (1 Corinthians 12:7). Fan it to flame.
