I remember years ago when the Lord asked me; “Do you think I can commit my people into your hands, especially the ladies?” I was quick to answer; “I’m not even interested. I just want to live my life with no attachment to anyone.” Little did I know that God said that to prepare my heart for my pastoral calling. That question set my heart and acts aright.
Friend, life is full of questions, some of which we definitely have no answer for. The smartest of us can only provide answers to a few. However, when God asks you a question, you must be careful that you are not proving your smartness or intelligence. You must be patient and sensitive enough to pick what He’s trying to reveal to you.
The omniscient God is inarguably not clueless about our lives and the details. He does not ask questions because He desires an answer as it were; He wants to let us know what we would not have known if not for the questions. Behind the questions of God are the revelations that would revolutionize your life. Hidden in those questions are encounters of wisdom for life and destiny.
What questions has God asked you lately? What answers have you provided? What have you discovered from those questions? What change of thinking and practice have they brought to your life? When God asked Jacob; “What is your name?” It was to change him from a cheat to a prince; it was to realign him with his prophetic destiny (Genesis 32:27-28).
For Elijah; “What are you doing here?” was not a question to generate complaints and excuses. It was simply to let him know that he was not supposed to be where he was. There was more ahead of him than the threats of Jezebel (1 Kings 19:9-18). For Peter; “Do you love me more than these?” was not meant to explain his love. It was to refocus his love and prepare him for better leadership (John 21:15-19).
This season, be open to questions from God and never prove your intelligence before the omniscient God. Rather, show your humility by gently looking out for what He’s saying or revealing to you. Don’t forget that inside the questions of God are the wisdom and encounters for life and destiny (Habakkuk 2:1-3). You will succeed!
