We had an important workers’ meeting the other day and I was rushing so I would not be late. My daughter saw my dedication and asked, “Daddy, why are you rushing? Are you a worker?” I smiled and replied, “Yes, I am first a Christian, then a worker, before being a pastor. A pastor is a worker.” Let me ask you, are you a worker?
Friend, are you really working? Being a worker is not a title. It is work. Many workers today are not actually working (John 5:17). Many employees do nothing but wait for payday. In God’s kingdom, there is no place for loafers. You are either working or you are not.
Your job is different from your work. Your job is what you are employed to do, while your work is what you spend your time doing. You can be hired as a secretary but spend your day scrolling on social media (2 Thessalonians 3:11). God engages for purpose, the devil entangles for distraction.
Are you really working? Don’t waste your precious time doing nothing. The kingdom of God forbids idleness (Matthew 20:1-7). Idleness opens the door to temptation and stifles your God-given abilities (2 Samuel 11:1-5). Work is meant to release your potential. An idle man can be loaded yet empty (Proverbs 21:20).
God promised to bless the work of our hands, not just the prayers of our lips (Deuteronomy 28:12). If you pray much but work little, you will be spiritually rich but physically broke (Ephesians 1:3). Work translates spiritual blessings into tangible results. Work is not a curse. It is a blessing.
Don’t work only for what you can get. Work for what you can become. Who you become through work is your greatest reward (Genesis 32:10, Colossians 3:23-24). When you become the right person, you attract the right opportunities. Don’t be a pastor who neglects ministry or an executive who executes nothing. Are you really working?
