The other day, I was talking with a sister, and I could see how deeply hurt she was. She said to me, “I’m going back to that same place where they offended me. I’ll let them know I’m not stupid. I’ll give them what they want.” My response to her became the heart of this message: “Take the high road of peace.”

Friend, take the high road of peace.
The Bible talks about “the peace of God that passes all understanding” (Philippians 4:7). I also believe there is the peace of God that passes all misunderstandings (Matthew 5:23-25). How you handle misunderstandings reveals your level of maturity.

It is better to be a person of peace than a person of power (Matthew 5:9). The power of love will always outweigh the love of power. People won’t recognize you as God’s child because of how powerful you are, but because of how peaceful and loving you are (Matthew 5:43-48). Pursue peace with all men, without compromise (Hebrews 12:14).

Don’t allow the devil to manipulate your emotions by stirring up people and situations against you. You must discern when people are being used to steal your joy and peace. Not every fight is your fight. Don’t waste your energy on every quarrel, and miss what God has for you (1 Samuel 17:28-29).

Be intentional about the atmosphere you create or allow around you (Proverbs 22:10). The Holy Spirit operates in peace while demons operate in chaos (Ephesians 4:3, James 3:16). Sometimes, you will have to let people have their way so that God can have His way in your life (Genesis 13:7-13).

Be a person of peace. Don’t be the reason there’s chaos in your workplace, home, church, or relationships (Proverbs 16:28, 17:9). Like Abraham, God will reward you for choosing the high road of peace. People may call you weak or slow. But the God of peace you honour will soon speak for you (Matthew 5:9).
