A while ago, a young man I knew from campus called me. After introducing himself, he asked, “Sir, do you still remember me?” I said, “Very well!” Then I gave him a quick summary of what I knew about him. He replied, “Wow! I thought that because you’re now up there, you wouldn’t remember people like us again. You’ve shocked me, sir.”
Friend, don’t let success sink you. Saul assumed that being at the top meant he could do as he pleased, so he disobeyed God (1 Samuel 15:17-19). He also presumed God would overlook it because of his position (1 Samuel 13:13-14). Position without humility is dangerous.
David thought he had trained enough generals, so he stayed back when kings went to war (2 Samuel 11:1). He presumed he could delegate prayer and warfare at the wrong time. He missed it. That incident brought a major dent to David’s walk with God (2 Samuel 11:2-5).
Joseph, however, seemed to understand success better. He knew how to handle divine blessing with the right heart and attitude. He would not seek revenge. Rather, He saw God in everything. Joseph did not let success corrupt his heart (Genesis 41:16, 45:4-5). What about you?
Without proper discipleship, wealthy, wise, and strong people become easy targets for pride and presumption (Jeremiah 9:23-24). We must not glory in riches, wisdom, or might, but in knowing God (Matthew 6:33). Prove yourself faithful and ready for the next level of God’s blessing.
You must give God the freedom to bless and lift you without losing you in the process. For many, it is not the devil keeping them small. It is God waiting until their heart and posture can carry the weight of promotion. God will test you before He promotes you (Genesis 22:1-2, 16-18). When you pass God’s test, your testimony will follow.
