A minister once shared how God called him to start a ministry in a certain city. He didn’t like the city at all, yet he obeyed. He chose to live in a different city and only came in briefly to minister before leaving again. One day during prayer, God told him, “If you refuse to stay where I sent you, nothing will work.” He needs to be willing and obedient.

Friend, divine instruction always has two parts: willingness and obedience (Isaiah 1:19). Some people are willing, but they don’t obey. Others obey, but only with reluctance. The best of every land is kept for those who embrace where God planted them and do what He instructs (Genesis 26:1-14).

God made us free moral agents because He desires worship that comes from the heart (Joshua 24:15). He will not force His will on us. Instead, He gives us the freedom to choose Him. He wants our service and devotion to be offered willingly and joyfully (Colossians 3:23).

To serve willingly does not mean there will be no discomfort (2 Corinthians 9:6-7). It means you choose to honour God above your own ease. You place His purpose above personal comfort. Any service or sacrifice that is not given willingly will not be accepted (Exodus 25:2).

The other part of divine instruction is obedience (Job 36:11). Most people who think they have obeyed have only partially obeyed. Like Saul, they allow personal preferences to dilute their obedience. Until obedience is complete, destiny cannot be fulfilled (1 Samuel 15:19-22).

Embrace God’s will for your life. Do it lovingly and joyfully. Do not serve out of pressure. Do not give grudgingly or without love (1 Corinthians 13:3). Let your willingness strengthen your obedience, and let your obedience be completed by willingness. That is how you enjoy God’s best (Psalm 16:1-11).
