After many of my leadership sessions, I get asked the same question: “Sir, how do I bring about change when I’m not the one in charge? How do I lead without a title?” My response is usually the same — build relationships, show loyalty, and take ownership of your space. I’m confident this will help you too.

Friend, you don’t need a title to lead (Judges 9:8-15). The sooner you understand that, the sooner you will start making an impact. Too many people sit around waiting for a position before they act where God has already placed them (Matthew 20:7).

The lowest form of leadership is leadership by position (Matthew 23:1-3). Yet, many people link leadership to a title, and without it, they feel stuck and powerless. Meanwhile, some of the most influential people don’t have a position at all — just impact (Judges 6:14-16).

Sometimes, positions can limit you. That’s why God often hides people to use them (1 Samuel 3:7-12). He places them where there’s no spotlight so they can influence without pressure or public scrutiny. The truth is, not everyone can handle being in the spotlight (Luke 12:49-50).

Leading without authority takes strong people skills (Luke 2:46-52). If you don’t have power by title, you gain influence through relationships. Relationships open doors and earn you a hearing. It is within that trust that your ideas and intentions become clear, and you can offer suggestions wisely and respectfully (John 15:15).

Constantly opposing your leader and his initiatives only makes you look like a rebel — and no leader will elevate a rebel (Numbers 12:1-8). Instead, show loyalty. Support the vision. Take ownership of your corner and deliver results there (Acts 6:8). When you bring change in your small space, you will soon be invited to influence at greater levels.
