A cab driver struggled financially until he met his pastor for counselling. The pastor helped him develop discipline by having someone collect daily savings from him. Within two years, he bought a transport vehicle and built a house. He came back to thank the pastor for showing him that his problem was not lack of money. It was a lack of discipline.

Friend, you don’t have a money problem. You may only have a discipline or wisdom problem (Proverbs 21:20). When you always think that money is your problem, you have given the devil permission to keep you in perpetual financial struggle. You need to always remember that money is the least of your problem (2 Kings 4:1-7).

For most people, just putting their financial life in order will solve the money problem they have (Luke 9:12-17). God would not likely send money the way of someone who cannot manage it properly. He would not also send His resources to lazy people. Lazy people will waste heaven’s resources (Proverbs 12:24).

When it comes to finance, you either increase your sacrifice or reduce your desire (1 Corinthians 15:10). Your sacrifice must match your desire. Rather than sabotage tomorrow for today, you need to sacrifice today for tomorrow. Most people are living larger than their present financial reality (Philippians 4:11-13). You must be willing and ready to pay the price for what you desire.

In life, you don’t rise to the level of your dreams. You fall to the level of your discipline (1 Timothy 4:15). Financial discipline is a non-negotiable aspect of financial rest. Like the man in our opening story, you can have a lot of money passing through your hands, but you don’t have the wisdom and discipline to trap them (Genesis 41:53-57). This is why everyone needs a pastor, a coach, or a mentor.

We all need someone who would hold us accountable (Hebrews 13:17). Someone who instils and enforces discipline. Someone who helps us to do what is right even when we don’t feel like doing it. Someone who would help you see the bigger picture and live your life today to guarantee that future (Esther 4:12-16). You need someone who would help you cultivate habits that will make your destiny happen.
